Speaking at the ceremony Tuesday, October 22, 2024, Mayor Robert S. Bestman, II on behalf of the City Government of Paynesville promised to work collaboratively in seeking support for the team.
Working with Pfc is part of Mayor Bestmanโ€™s quest of supporting institutions that are named in honor of the City of Paynesville.
โ€œWe will work together in finding sponsors for the team, while mobilizing residents of Paynesville and businesses to support our team (Pfc), said Mayor Bestmanโ€.
For his part, the President of the Pfc Hilary Sackie lauded Mayor Bestman for the audience and thought of supporting Pfc.
โ€œWhen I took over the team, I decided not to name the team with my own name but rather a name that everyone can be associated with. I wanted a name that will last forever and Paynesville was the name I settled for as a prominent resident of the City, Mr. Sackie notedโ€.

Paynesville Football Club formerly Reeves Football Club, was established in 2008. After 5 years in the community league, the owners of Reeves engaged with and sought collaboration with a prominent citizens of Paynesville to take over the team and help propelled it to prominence in Liberian Football.
Following a successful takeover, the new owners of the club decided to rebrand the club by principally renaming it in 2013 from Reeves Football Club to Paynesville Football Club.
In the wisdom of the club, the change of name would enable citizens of Paynesville to engage with and be a part of the club. The intent was and is now to make the Club a true representative of the City in our national Football League and to rally citizensโ€™ support to and for the team.
In 2016, the club was promoted to the Liberian Football Association 3rd division league playing in the ELWA Sub Committee League. The Club negotiated with the Paynesville Community High School in Voker Mission for the use of the football pitch as its home ground, a place the team is proud to call its temporary home.
On May 30, 2022, the Club was promoted to the Second Division League after emerging as the Champions from the LFA Third Division National Playoffs held in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County. After one season in the Second Division League, the club was promoted to the First and Premier League Division.
Paynesville Football Club is now a First Division Club and the current champions of the Liberia Football Associationโ€™s 2023-2024 Orange Knock Out League Cup. A feat the club achieved only in its maiden season in the top flight of Liberian Football.
This championship propelled Paynesville Football Club to represent Liberia in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Inter Club League. The team had a great run in this tournament winning 3 games and losing one, failing to qualify for the group stage of the tournament.
